about
"Father Time" was recorded at "Clutter Studios" (A subsidiary of Orient Farm Studios) an oft vacant, but never uninteresting place, mostly for pianos but recently for recording and always for music and carpentry projects.
"The stuff actually enhances the acoustical qualities of the studio"
-owner Stephen has been heard before saying. The descriptive 'Clutter' was chosen to be in the name, because 'Rat's Nest', 'Heap', and lastly 'Hole' did not have the same mental picture tied to them. The latter also seemed to have a bit more of a negative connotation, which the proprietors felt would be best to avoid.
This song was recorded in the afternoon, with 2 microphones. The guitar was stereo miced on the body with an AKG Perception 100 and a Shure 849 on the neck. The vocal track was recorded through a small, though feisty tube preamp, using the AKG mic as well. All of this was captured on Logic Pro through an Mbox mini. There is very little EQ on this track. I wanted the emotion of the words and the muse of the song to be felt in this version not masked one iota. I was more than thrilled with the 2 humble takes that were multitracked together. I applied a slight compression to my voice to bring down the high SPLs and raise the lows, but the lovely part where on the word "assuage" I pull that nice low 2nd that sustains so well and so intimately, well... - to achieve that effect I simply leaned into the mic as my voice grew softer with the note to give the feeling of a good friend sharing in your ear a little tidbit of inspiration that brings a smile to your face. This has been your recording lesson for the day, there might be a quiz later, so take notes.
lyrics
V1:
Time will bring me on back to you, I know your name
‘cause I’ve been overly full of the reason to blame,
Refrain1:
And yet my heart is aching I sense now your pain,
I’ve been angry at nothing I’ve only myself to blame
V2:
Could you find me a place to be free as a child,
‘cause I’ve been wandering back to the ways I despise
Refrain2:
The truth is I know what I’m up against, it’s all found inside of me,
I try, but I can’t seem to break through the walls that surround me,
V3:
Jesus, let your arms enfold me, I can’t find my way,
Time seems to rush right on through me, the tide won’t assuage,
(Refrain1)
Bridge:
Every time I fall down, you have dusted me off and I only find love,
When I run to your arms
Outro:
Time will bring me on back to you, Time will bring me on back to you, time will bring me on back to you…

Abe, Abe & Abe. (Me, Myself & I)
Hi I'm Abe (Seven Times Down),
I write music because I have to. I'm driven to. I play guitar & mess around with lots of other stuff. My music could mostly be called folk, as long as you include punk, ambient, gospel, and blues in there too.
